  1. Greetings from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
We read with great interest about the Makiling Tree Planting and Rehabilitation 2010, which is scheduled to take place in September. We want to congratulate you for the initiative you have taken to participate in a rehabilitation programme which started in 1998.

In regard to your efforts, we would like to you and your network of contacts to partner with the UNEP- led Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign.
The Billion Tree Campaign is UNEP's first global tree planting initiative and was launched on 8 November 2006 during the United Nations climate change meeting that was held in Nairobi. Placed under the patronage of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Professor Wangari Maathai and His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Billion Tree Campaign is raising awareness of the inter-dependence between humankind and the planet’s ecosystems, as well as the linkages between tree planting and climate change mitigation, the restoration of biodiversity, air and soil quality and food security.

Under the Campaign, governments, private sector companies, United Nations agencies, civil society organizations, farmers, local authorities and the public at large register tree-planting commitments on the dedicated web-site www.unep.org/billiontreecampaign with the objective of planting billions of trees world-wide. Today, the website records over ten billion planted trees in 178 countries.

I am pleased to inform you that the campaign won a UN 21 Award as a substantive programme in recognition of its “exceptional contribution towards improving efficiency in the United Nations”.

Should the you join the campaign, we will be happy to feature your efforts and that of your network of contacts in the campaign's website. We ask you to keep us posted on the progress untill the time you will do the actual tree planting. This you will be able to register the trees planted on our website.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for additional information or clarification.

We look forward to having you on-board and for more conversations.
