Mt. Batulao - New Trail 2nd Anniversary
Mt. Batulao - New Trail 2nd Anniversary
Tatay Resting invites us to celebrate with them as they celebrate The New Trail's 2nd Anniversary on Feb 6 and 7, 2010.
I first encountered this mountain when I were invited by SPiMC on there 72Km. Adventure Race. From then on I can't stop myself to recall the happiness of conquering this mountain. Sir Vic Sotto's "Ang Darling kong Aswang" used this scenery as one of the backgrounds of their set. Amazed, i shouted " Batulao! " on the movie house.
For me the temp. in this camp is a possible training experience before climbing Mt. Pulag.
Also, there was this story of the first child born here on Jan. 3, 2010. The infant named Jessabelle was attended by a Registered Nurse who went to Batulao to chill out. Together with a hilot, the nurse-climber helped the Waray mother deliver Baby Jessabelle.

Mt. Sembrano Nakawan..

Climb Advisory: Beware of theft in Mt. Sembrano and Mt. Romelo!
Climb Advisory: Beware of theft in Mt. Sembrano and Mt. Romelo!
By: Sir Gid

In response to reports of theft in Mt. Sembrano and Mt. Romelo, and the apparent lack of action on the part of the concerned authorities, we are issuing this climb advisory to warn hikers to avoid camping in these mountains and to be vigilant about their belongings at all times.
The history of theft in Mt. Sembrano is very long. On March 9, 2009, a Hiking Advisory was also issued, after several reports of theft. As for Mt. Romelo, there have also been countless reports of theft since 2004; our alarm has been more heigtened with reports of recent theft (Dec. 23, Dec. 27, Jan 3, etc.) Several complaints have been filed last year but there has not been any improvement in the situation.
The occurences of the theft were usually during the evening, and they almost always take place at the campsites. There have been no reports of open assaults or holdups. Nonetheless, this thievery is an affront to the healthy relationship that must exist between mountaineers and locals. We appeal to the local governments in Pililla, Rizal and Siniloan, Laguna, to intensify efforts to make these hiking destinations a safe place to be enjoyed by mountaineers and locals alike.
Moreover, for the time being we STRONGLY DISCOURAGE climbers to camp in Mt. Sembrano and Mt. Romelo; if you must really climb these mountains then do it as a dayhike. We are not afraid of petty thieves but we must show the locals in all mountaineering destinations that they have a responsibility to maintain peace and order if they wish to have visitors in their place. Climbers are encouraged to pressure the local officials to act by reiterating our collective desire for security and our indignation against thievery.

HIGHEST MOUNTAINS IN THE PHILIPPINES | |
by Sir Marc Gana
METHODOLOGY
Comparative analysis and a relative elevation index was constructed based on PHILVOLCS, Indexmundi.com, Sibarong Backpackers, MMS, and other sources. The Rodol Map of 1956 was also consulted, as well as site-specific DENR publications. Mountains suspected to be one and the same were plotted on the Wikimapia map of the Philippines to weed out redundancies, as in the case of Mt. Ragang and Mt. Piapayungan.
The choice of which elevation to prefer reflects the approach of Pinoy Mountaineer in all its entries: landmark mountains, whose elevations are extensively studied (i.e. Mt. Apo, Mt. Kanlaon) served as benchmarks against which other mountains are compared. The relative graph formed from each source served as collaborative evidence.
The decision to include all high points of the Kitanglad Range follow the attitude of mountaineers towards the Cordillera range where all the high points (i.e. Pulag, Tabayoc, Napulauan) were considered. Still, however, this list may not free from inaccuracies and peer-evaluation is highly encouraged.
Coordinates will be added and this table will be modified as new information is available. Supplemental tables (i.e. Top 10 highest in Luzon) will also be included later.
ENDNOTE
There are truly still a lot of mountains out there, and Pinoy Mountaineer is still far from its goal of identifying, classifying, and describing all the mountains in the Philippines. It is a refreshing thought, however, that one will never run out of mountains to explore in the Philippines!
