MT. BALAGBAG

MT. BALAGBAG
River and Falls Trek
October 23-24, 2010

LOCATION : San Jose del Monte, Bulacan
...ELEVATION : 777 MASL (2550 ft)
SPECS : Minor climb, Difficulty 3/9, Trail class 2-3

Mt.Balagbag is situated along the boundary of Norzagaray, Bulacan and Montalban, Rizal. Water from its tributaries contributes to the water that passes through Ipo Dam which then goes to La Mesa Water Reservoir.
Mt. Balagbag is a favorite of bikers and those who love an easy trek it takes only over an hour to reach the campsite…however, it depends on you pacing and if you love to take pictures along the way…. as the trail is well marked by a road that leads almost directly to the summit.
The falls looks magnificent! Mt Balagbag has a waterfall that looks like infinity pools. Climbing the waterfall is somewhat challenging, some part of the rocks were slippery and sharp.…. imagine climbing up an 80 degree incline almost 2 storeys high, using only you r wits and balance to guide you to the top.

Mt. Banahaw

Mountain News: Three hiking guides shot dead in Mt. Banahaw, Dolores, Quezon

According to a report from Abante Tonite and as corroborated with our contacts in Dolores, Quezon, three persons, namely Robert Villapando, Hadjie Rebandao, and Joey Rebandao were shot dead while resting on a tent in Sitio Banca, Mt. Banahaw, in Dolores, Quezon. There are no statements yet from the police as to whether this act was perpetuated by elements of the New People's Army (NPA).

Some mountaineers have told informed us, through email and through the PinoyMountaineer Facebook page, that they have met these persons, or have contracted their guiding services in Mt. Cristobal and Mt. Banahaw in the past.

Concerns regarding the safety of mountaineers in Mt. Banahaw have been expressed. The mountain is still officially closed to the public though permits have been issued since last year, and 'backdoor' entries are in vogue. We are still awaiting the reaction of Ms. Sally Pangan, PASU of Mt. Banahaw- San Cristobal National Park, regarding this incident.

Even before conclusions as to the nature of the crime can be drawn, we strongly condemn this act. No person, no matter how bad, deserves to be murdered, and the rule of law must prevail and be enforced even on the mountains.
