Cebu Coastal Adventure Challenge

Organizer: Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation Inc., (CCEF)

Details: The 60-kilometer race will take racers around Mactan, Cebu, Cordova and Lapu-lapu, Cebu Philippines. Along the way, teams will be faced with a series of mystery tests supported by clues. You’ll definitely need some strategy and teamwork to get yourself ahead of everyone else. Finish time could range anywhere between 6 to 8 hours, depending on the pace of the team and route selection.

As the host club of the 24th MFPI Midyear Federation Climb and Presidents’ Meeting in the province of Tarlac on October 21-24, 2009, with the theme “Paduyduy Hen a Tarlac”, UPORG wants you to be with us and enjoy the different outdoor activities we have prepared for you. Paduyduy is a thanksgiving ritual being practiced by the Aeta and the Abelling before harvested bounty are consumed.

Besides promoting responsible mountaineering and introducing new outdoor havens, the 2009 midyear congress aims to establish appreciation of indigenous culture and skills, while promoting eco-tourism. Also, it intends to encourage the usage of mountaineers’ outdoor agility and expertise in helping our less-served brothers and sisters in the mountainous areas that we frequently visit in our own hometown. Now we have our own adaptation of Paduyduy.

You can choose and have a taste of the following activities:

Things to bring:
- reasonable fitness- umbrella (for the 20-minute boat ride - protection against the sun or rain) - garden gloves (optional - just to keep hands clean but there will be no digging. Holes for the seedlings will be dug prior to the activity by the caretakers)- at least 1 liter drinking water- packed lunch- swim clothes (optional - there is a stream where the volunteers can take a dip after the tree planting)- sun block lotion- insect repellent- work clothes (anything not dark beacuse dark clothes absorb more heat from the sun, denim pants is ok for the half-day activity, rubber shoes with good traction is recommended, expect the trail to be muddy)- camera- sack or large plastic bags to carry the seedlings- extra clothes
